Course Title: Maintaining Cisco Service Provider VPNs and

MPLS Networks

Course Code: MSPVM 642-780
Duration: 5 Days

Course Overview

The Maintaining Cisco Service Provider VPNs and MPLS Networks (MSPVM) instructor led training course has been designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to provide support in a service provider environment for services that are based on MPLS. These include Cisco MPLS Traffic Engineering (Cisco MPLS TE), Layer 3 and Layer 2 MPLS virtual private networks (VPNs).

This course is part of the CCNP Service Provider career certification and will prepare and validate learner proficiency in monitoring and troubleshooting MPLS and associated technologies on the service provider core next generation networking.

Target Audience

Candidates who should consider attending the MSPVM 642-780 Cisco training course include 2 and 3 Tier Support Personnel, Service provider network operations centre (NOC) personnel, engineers and partners.

Course Objectives

On successfully completing the MSPVM 642-780 course candidates will be able to:
  • Identify the typical MPLS requirements in service provider networks; list the MPLS-based solutions; and describe the change, performance and fault management procedures for these solutions
  • Perform changes in the configuration, based on designs and implementation templates as well as the Information Technology Infrastructure Library® (ITIL)-based change management processes and procedures
  • Gather and interpret performance statistics for routing protocols using various tools such as show commands and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) based monitoring tools
  • Perform fault management for MPLS and associated services using tools such as show commands and monitoring tools

Course Prerequisites

Candidates attending the MSPVM 642-780 Cisco training course should have previously attended and completed courses ICND1, SSPO and OFCN. Candidates should also understand and be able to identify the critical factors for availability, scalability and manageability of OSPF, IS-IS and BGP. Self-study training in these areas may be found on the Cisco Learning Network website or alternatively it is recommended that candidates attend a BCN course and prior attendance of MSPRP is also recommended.
Finally, candidates should be able to implement Cisco IOS Software and Cisco IOS XR Software configuration and monitoring commands and have previous UNIX and/or Linux operating system experience as applied to IP network environments.

Testing and Certification

The MSPVM Cisco training course is the recommended preparation for the 642-780 MSPVM - Maintaining Cisco Service Provider VPNs and MPLS Networks exam. This course is part of the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Service Provider Operations Career Certification and Maintaining Cisco Service Provider Quality of Service (MSPQS) is recommended for further study.
